Rainbow Beach & Frasier Island....

When our Greyhound coach stopped in rainbow beach, Toni and I were relieved to find that our hostel was only across the road opposite the bus stop stand... Travelling around for 6 months with a heavy backpack tends to get rather annoying especially when you have to travel far to your hostel once you have got off your coach/boat/plane...

Anyways where was I?.... So we were staying in a hostel called Dingoes which is a joint tour and hostel operation. Checking in was relatively smooth considering about 30 people got off the same coach. Our room was very clean and modern and our beds were comfortable, but to be honest we were so happy to be out of Bundaberg that anywhere would have suited us.

That afternoon we had our tour briefing and were also put into our groups. There were 62 of us altogether and we were all divided into groups of 8 for each jeep. Toni and I were in a group that consisted of 4 Israeli guys and 2 English girls from Somerset. Being in this group was ideal as everyone was really nice, the 4 guys could all drive and cook and the girls were lovely, we all got along really well. I even got to learn some Hebrew from the guys as well as some cooking tips and some Israeli dishes.

When we arrived on Frasier Island, I was firstly amazed at how beautiful, big and deserted the beaches were. Second thing I noticed was the dingoes that freely roamed the Island; Thirdly was all the other jeeps from other tours that occasionally drove past us.

We spent 2 nights and 3 days on Frasier island... The mornings were early and cold which were not helped by the hangovers endured by the previous nights alcohol in fuelled socialising... In addition the fine sand of the island got everywhere and all our meals and drinks had an extra crunch to them... But in all we had a terrific few days. Lake McKenzie on the Island is beautiful and the Views from Indian head are amazing and to top it off Toni and I met some great people and we all had a great laugh.

I would highly recommend going on this tour of Frasier Island if you don’t mind roughing it a bit and you enjoy nature- by this I mean No showers and No toilets.....
